Dan Evans is one win away from striding through the All England Club gates on Monday after winning his second qualifying match in Roehampton.

Birmingham-born Evans, who is now ranked 752nd in the world, was the only winner on a bad Wednesday for the British contingent with five players heading home following defeats, including teenager Katie Swan.

Former British No 2 Evans displayed nerves of steel to battle past eighth-ranked Matthias Bachinger from Germany 6-4 0-6 7-5 to set up a crunch meeting against Japan's Yuichi Sugita, who already knocked out Alexander Ward, for a spot in the main draw.

Welsh star Joshua Milton lost 6-1 2-6 6-4 to the experienced Michael Berrer while doubles specialist Edward Corrie suffered a 6-3 7-5 to Inigo Cervantes from Spain.

In the women's draw, Britain's 16-year-old Swan was unable to follow up her impressive win against Slovakian ninth seed Kristina Kucova by going down in straight sets to Tamira Paszek of Austria.

Swan, who is ranked 866th, lost 6-3 6-3 to the two-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist.
