The former World No 1 and nine-time French Open champion, who will take on Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci in the first round next week, is in the same half of the draw as Andy Murray and Roger Federer at Wimbledon but he is happy with his form going into the competition.

He said: “It was a good practice match for me against Robin.

“The last couple of tournaments I was playing well; good feelings on grass. Let’s try to be ready for next week.”

Nadal, who previously won at Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010, suffered a first round exit at Queen’s Club last week when he lost to Alex Dolgopolov.

However, the Spaniard is hoping to use his recent win at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart – his first grass court title since 2010 – as inspiration when he takes to Wimbledon.

“I won at Stuttgart again after five years,” Nadal said. “It was very important for me to win a title again on grass and at Queen’s I had a good chance to win that match.

“Sometimes on grass that kind of thing happens and I lost some opportunities. That’s part of the game, he (Dolgopolov) played a little bit better than me and here I am.”
