Great Britain's Brydan Klein claimed an impressive win over Dusan Lajovic in the first round of qualifying for the US Open.

Australian-born Klein battled back from a set down to complete a 4-6 6-1 6-2 victory over his Serbian opponent and needs two more wins to reach the main draw for this year's final Grand Slam tournament.

The world No 178 seized control of the match in the second set, securing a string of breaks against Lajovic, who is 71 places above him in the rankings.

Klein made only a fleeting appearance at Wimbledon, suffering a first round defeat against Andreas Seppi.

Fellow Brit Liam Broady was unable to match Klein's heroics as he suffered a three-set defeat against Inigo Cervantes.

Broady reached the second round at Wimbledon, but his hopes of competing in another major competition were ended by a 4-6 6-4 7-5 defeat against the Spaniard.
