US Open 2015: Eugenie Bouchard pulls out of doubles and mixed doubles
Saturday 5 September 2015 21:32, UK
Eugenie Bouchard's US Open campaign is in doubt after the Canadian pulled out of the doubles and mixed doubles events through injury.
Bouchard sustained a head injury after slipping and falling in the locker room at Flushing Meadows on Friday.
No decision has yet been made on the world No 25's participation in the singles but her doubles withdrawal has been confirmed in a tournament statement.
"Eugenie Bouchard is withdrawing from both the women's doubles and mixed doubles competition at the 2015 US Open," the statement read.
"Following the competition yesterday evening, Ms. Bouchard slipped and fell in the locker room and sustained a head injury.
"The severity of the injury was and continues to be assessed by the on-site medical personnel at the US Open.
"The medical staff has recommended that Ms. Bouchard withdraw from today's competitions, and Ms. Bouchard is following that advice.
"No determination about competing in the singles competition has been made at this time."
Bouchard is scheduled to play Italian Roberta Vinci in the fourth round in New York after beating Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova on Friday.
The 21-year-old teamed up with Australian Nick Kyrgios in the mixed doubles later in the afternoon as the pair overcame Elina Svitolina and Artem Sitak to reach round two.
She had been due to play in the women's doubles with Russian Elena Vesnina on Saturday before her withdrawal was confirmed.
Bouchard reached the Wimbledon final in 2014, as well as the semi-finals at the Australian and French Open, but she has struggled for form this year.
Her victory over Cibulkova was the first time she has managed three consecutive victories since January.
