Rafael Nadal could only watch and applaud when David Ferrer pulled off a superb winner at the ATP World Tour Finals.
The two Spaniards served up a thrilling encounter, with energy-sapping rallies throughout, but Ferrer stopped Nadal in his tracks when he lined up an inch perfect lob at The O2 in London.
Nadal, who acknowledged his compatriot's expertise by clapping his racquet, would earn the final round of applause as he sealed a 6-7 6-3 6-4 win and topped the Ilie Nastase group ahead of his semi-final against Novak Djokovic.
