Scot loses in two sets after match is switched indoors

Jamie Murray failed in his bid for a second successive Slazenger Open doubles title on Saturday. Along with South African Jeff Coetzee, the Scot went down 6-2 7-6 (7-5) to Bruno Soares and Kevin Ullyett in Saturday's final in Nottingham. The match had to be switched from the grass and played indoors because of poor weather, which denied the pair the support of the British fans. Murray had won the title last year with Eric Butorac but his hopes of repeating the success where dented as Coetzee got off to a poor start. He was broken twice in the opening set, and although the pair then matched Ullyett and Soares in the second, a net cord on match point gave their opponents the title. Murray was philosophical in defeat, believing their opponents had proved just too strong on the day.

Difficult match

He said: "It was a difficult match, those guys played a good match, too good for us. "Moving indoors probably didn't help us too much. The courts were quick and we struggled on our returns today and they got a bit more help with their serves. "We didn't play our best match of the week, that's for sure, but those guys came out and made it difficult for us. "It's not much fun to play a final of a big tournament like that and there's nobody there watching but that can't be helped, that's the weather's fault. "But it was good to get to the final again and play some matches on grass so it was a good week."
Wimbledon pairing
Looking forward to Wimbledon, Murray will team up with Liezel Huber as he attempts to retain his mixed doubles title at SW19. The Scot won the trophy last year with Jelena Jankovic but she has been struggling with an arm injury and instead wants to concentrate on her singles. Murray added: "Liezel's very good, she's the best in the world at what she does and we played the last three grand slams and the last two we lost to the guys who won the tournament, and we made the semi-finals of the US Open, so we think we can do well."
