Day two commentary

Image: Eaton: Thrilled the evening crowds

A detailed look back at the second day of this year's Wimbledon.

Latest Wimbledon Stories

2120 All done for the day now. The remaining doubles matches have been suspended. We'll be back tomorrow when Novak Djokovic will take on Marat Safin first on Centre. The last match could also be a cracker with Roger Federer facing the dangerous Swede Robin Soderling.

2102 Matches are now starting to be suspended arounds the grounds. The only singles match still ongoing is the one involving fifth seed Dementieva. She took the first set against Camerin but it a break down at 2-3 in the second.

2100 Over on Centre the Williams sisters didn't hang around long. They've won 6-0 6-3 and could be serious contenders for the doubles title - if they take it seriously. With important singles matches coming up, that might not be the case.

2058 Victory for Eaton. He breaks the Serb's serve to secure a 6-3 7-6 6-4 victory. A fine performance from the Briton who came through qualifying last week. He'll now face 25th seed Dmitry Tursunov on Thursday.

2052 An update on Chris Eaton's progress. The third set is still on serve, with Pashanski now serving to stay in the match at 4-5.

2050 James Blake, seeded nine, is safely through. He dropped the first set to Christophe Rochus but has just clinched a 3-6 6-3 6-1 6-4 win.

2041 Jamie Baker has indeed gone out, beaten 6-4 6-2 6-3 by Galvani. Hopefully next year he won't by struck down by a debilitating disease.

2032 All over for the day on Court One - Jankovic has wrapped up a 6-3 6-2 victory over Savchuk. She'll next face Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro - a player she beat in the recent French Open quarter-finals.

2029 It's clouding over now and getting dark earlier than last night. Perhaps we won't be playing so long tonight.

2027 Jankovic has just failed to serve the match out against Olga Savchuk. She still leads by a set and 5-2 though.

2025 The game looks up for Jamie Baker who is now two sets and two breaks down to Stefano Galvani. It's no great surprise though. It's incredible that Baker is even playing here. Just a few months ago he was in a Miami hospital with a blood virus which almost killed him. The British Davis Cup star is better than how he's played today.

2020 Good news from British fans - qualifier Chris Eaton has taken that second-set tie-break 8-6 and now leads Boris Pashanski by two sets to love. Meanwhile, ninth seed James Blake has come from a set down to lead Christophe Rochus by two sets to one.

2017 A bit of an epic has just finished out on Court 18 with 25th seed Dmitry Tursunov edging past last year's Queen's finalist Nicolas Mahut 7-5 in the fifth.

2014 A double break now for Jankovic - the second seed is cruising. Meanwhile, Centre Court fans have got their money's worth today. The Williams sisters are now out there playing doubles.

2010 Jankovic seems to be on course for an easy win. She's grabbed an early break on Court One and now leads by a set and 3-0. Meanwhile, Chris Eaton is into a second-set tie-break as he looks to build a two-set lead.

2008 Murray seems happy enough with his display. His post-match comments were: "It was a really good first match. He makes it really difficult and he's unpredictable but I did everything pretty well today. It was a really fun match. He hit some awesome shots and really got the atmosphere going but I felt pretty comfortable."

2003 I'm passing over to colleague Andy Schooler now - he'll take you through to the close of play which should be around 2130. Feel free to email him with your thoughts on any of today's action, especially Andy Murray's victory. He couldn't do much more than win in straight sets, could he? Email Andy at andy.schooler@bskyb.com

1957 Jankovic breaks again to take the first set 6-3 on Court One, while Baker has gone down 6-2 in his second set against Galvani.

1948 With the Murray and Centre Court excitement done for the night, we'll turn our attention to Court One where women's second seed Jankovic leads Olga Savchuk 4-3 with a break. As far as the other Brits on court at the moment go, it's looking OK for Eaton - he's one set up and 3-3 all in the second, but not so good for Baker. Already a set down, he trails Galvani 4-1 with a double break in the second.

1945 Murray through to round two. Santoro gets to another fine drop shot, but can't stop Murray pushing the next one past him. Fine, entertaining match and one Murray will be pleased to have put to bed in straight sets. He certainly didn't seem to have any fitness concerns in that victory. Xavier Malisse is up next for the British number one.

1944 Murray goes for the glory winner, but hits the high part of the net. Murray has one match point remaining, on his own serve this time.

1943 First match point saved by Santoro as a Murray lob heads wide.

1943 Some unbelievably high-class tennis in this tie-break. A perfectly constructed point from Murray ends with a crisp volley to set up three match points. But the first two will be on the Santoro serve.

1942 Another wonderful rally in which Santoro just refuses to give in. He eventually seems to have wrested control before Murray hits another passing shot via the net cord to move 5-3 up and just two points from round two.

1940 A superb rally - and another drop shot - eventually ends with a winning volley from Murray to given him the first mini-break as the players change ends.

1939 A lucky net cord on an incredibly risky drop shot gives Murray a 3-2 lead in the breaker. All five points with serve so far.

1936 Murray misses a big chance, hitting a forehand long off a weak second serve. Santoro holds, and we're into a breaker.

1935 Another opening for Murray at 30-30 on the Santoro serve.

1933 So many Brits, so little time. Murray holds serve to force Santoro to once again serve to stay in the match.

1932 Eaton holds serve to take the first set against Pashanski. But bad news for O'Brien, who has collapsed from 5-1 up to lose the second set against Peer 7-5. She bows out after a promising start in both sets. Baker is also one set down.

1931 Superb tennis from Murray takes him to 0-30 on Santoro's serve, but he mishits a drop shot to get Santoro back in the game. One too many perhaps from Murray, given how well he's been hitting the ball in this game. A deep volley from Santoro is too good for Murray to get back in play as 0-30 becomes 30-30, and Santoro has game point when Murray hits an attempted crosscourt winner into the tape. Santoro's drop shot is nowhere near short enough, allowing Murray to pounce and pass Santoro to take the game to deuce. Murray is in charge of the rally before dumping a short ball from Santoro into the net. Santoro comes in on the back of an approach shot that's too short and it's back to deuce again. A wild forehand from Murray gives Santoro another chance to close out the game and this time he does so. Tenacious hold from Santoro, who was 0-30 down in a game of many deuces but never faced match point. Eaton, meanwhile, has broken for a 5-3 lead.

1922 Excellent hold from Murray. From 0-30 down he plays some of his best tennis with crunching forehands and delicate drop shots seeing him through to a 5-4 lead. Santoro will have to serve to stay in the match. O'Brien's 5-1 lead over Peer has been frittered away - 5-5 now in that one. Chris Eaton, making his debut, is 3-3 in the first set of his clash with Serbia's Boris Pashanski.

1918 Murray picks out a couple of searing winners, but Santoro still takes the game to 30 to level matters again at 4-4 in this third set.

1914 Some progress for Santoro: he at least takes a couple of points off the Murray serve this time. But one of those is donated by a shocking miss from Murray, smacking a gimme ball into the net, and the Scot recovers to take his 4-3 lead.

1911 Santoro still wowing the crowds with some outrageous angles. He somehow sticks a racket on a perfect Murray volley and whips it crosscourt for a clean winner. It's 3-3 now in this third set.

1908 Another simple service game for Murray, winning to love. Santoro making no impression on the Murray serve now.

1906 Brave Brit update: Katie O'Brien has roared into a 5-1 lead in the second set of her match against Peer, while Jamie Baker is out on Court 19 against Stefano Galvani. It's 1-1 in the early stages there.

1905 Roddick, like Nadal before him, has sauntered through a third-set tie-break to complete a straight-sets win. It ends 7-0 to the American number-six seed. Jelena Jankovic is the last match up on that court. On Centre, Santoro levels at 2-2.

1901 Murray untroubled on his serve now. In fact, it's a surprise to see him lose a point en route to a 2-1 lead. Murray has lost just three points on his first serve all day. On Court One, meanwhile, Roddick and Schwank are into a third-set tie-break. The American is two sets up.

1858 Santoro saves two break points before holding for 1-1. Murray loses a challenge after incorrectly querying a serve that landed on the centre line. Another seed bites the dust on the outside courts, Ivan Ljubicic crashing out to Jurgen Melzer.

1854 Murray's sixth ace gives him the first game of the third set. He's playing some lovely tennis now, to the delight of the Union Jack-clas masses inside Centre Court and out on Murrayfield or whatever it is that Henman Hill's called now.

1850 Two clean passing shots from Murray take him to set point, but Santoro saves. Murray earns another, but Santoro's wrongfooting volley takes us back to deuce again. Santoro gets a bad bounce off the line to give Murray another chance, and a superb lob seals the deal. From 2-4 down Murray has taken the last four games to go two sets up. Not such good news for O'Brien, who after making that early break has gone down 6-3 to Peer in the first set.

1844 Some new shots being played today. Murray scrambles to retrieve a lob from Santoro that lands on the baseline and swats it hard straight back at the Frenchman's feet. He can do nothing with it and it sets Murray on his way to a 5-4 lead. This set's turned round now, and suddenly Santoro is serving to stay in it.

1841 A left-handed double-handed approach shot from Santoro is met with a glorious pass down the line from Murray to set up break point. Santoro sends a forehand long as Murray levels the second set at 4-4.

1836 A routine love service game for Murray, but he needs to find a way through the Frenchman's serve soon or it'll be all-square.

1835 Santoro holds to 30 and remains a break to the good in this second set. Elsewhere, Roddick is two sets up on Schwank while O'Brien v Peer is back on serve.

1829 Better from Murray, using power to force Santoro back and then using the touch of the drop shot to move 40-0. Santoro pegs him back to 40-30, but Murray closes out the game with an ace.

1826 Santoro recovers from 0-30 to restore his two-game lead in the second set. Murray is in danger of being sucked into a 'to me, to you' back and forth here with Santoro slicing off both wings. They seem to be engaged in a competition to find the cutest angle, when Murray looked at his best in the first set when combining the tough play with his superior weight of shot.

1823 Santoro now 2-1 up on Murray in the second set, while elsewhere Jonas Bjorkman's last match at Wimbledon has ended in defeat after losing to Clement on four sets.

1815 An unbelievable winner down the line from Santoro after a fine lob from Murray gives the Frenchman an early break in the second set. One of the best rallies of the tournament so far, and at break point as well.

1811 We could have another brave Brit on our hands. Katie O'Brien was on Court TBC this morning; turns out it's 17, and she's already a break up against Shahar Peer, the number 24 seed.

1808 Murray hammers his way to three set points on the Santoro serve. The Frenchman saves the first two, but Murray's greater weight of shot eventually tells on the third. Good set for the British number one. He looks full of confidence and came back from the one setback at 3-3 to take the last three games in fine style.

1806 Murray makes short work of the first game with the new tennis balls to move within a game of the first set. He powers his way to the first three points before showing lovely touch at the net with a drop half-volley to finish the game. Lovely stuff.

1803 Murray cracks two crosscourt winners to turn 40-30 into break point, but Santoro finds a big first serve to get back to deuce. An excellent return and crisp winning volley gives Murray a second chance which he can't take, hitting wide after a 25-stroke rally - at least 15 of which were sliced backhands. The whole rally was in slow motion. A rather quicker serve-and-volley gives Santoro game point, but Murray returns superbly and quickly gets on top of the net to take out the point. A double fault gives Murray a third break point in the game but again he can't convert, finding the high part of the net with an attempted passing shot down the line. A big forehand winner gives Murray yet another chance and this time he does take it with a crosscourt return winner. Another cracking game on the Santoro serve, and Murray retakes the lead at 4-3

1753 A Murray ace cleans up the line judge on the centre line. Santoro challenges the call, but it kissed the line before thudding into the lineswoman's bonce. Murray dumps a simple volley into the net to go 30-30, and a neat volley from the Frenchman gives him break point. Santoro lures Murray into the net at break point, and his attempt to find a cute angle fails. Santoro breaks back at 3-3.

1748 Lovely game from Santoro, finding some outrageous angles in a love game that cuts his deficit to a single game again.

1746 Murray and Santoro embark on a bid to play the deftest slice shot. It's the British player who prevails as Santoro fails to get his racket under a drop shot before its second bounce. Murray takes the game to 15 to open up a 3-1 lead.

1741 A backhand winner down the line gives Murray his first break point of the match, but Santoro's dipping, swerving lob lands right on the sideline to take us to deuce. An ace - initially called out but successfully challenged by Santoro - gives him game point, but Murray produces another clean winner as his opponent approaches the net. Santoro reaches another game point with a deep approach shot before Murray takes us back to deuce with a running backhand down the line. Santoro double-faults to give Murray a second chance to break, and this time he finds the perfect lob to take a long and entertaining third game.

1735 Some powerful first serves and a delightful drop shot give Murray a love service game to level matters. Roddick takes the first set of his clash with Schwank 7-5.

1733 Murray lobs Santoro and follows it into the net, and is promptly lobbed himself. It lands right on the baseline to give Santoro the opening game of the match.

1732 Out on Court 16, Georges has finally won a three-and-a-half-hour epic against the 23rd seed Srebotnik 16-14 in the third.

1731 Santoro, achieving one of his remaining ambitions in tennis by stepping out on Centre Court, will serve first against Murray.

1723 Huge cheers on Centre as Britain's great hope Andy Murray walks out on court with his favourite player on tour, Fabrice Santoro.

1714 As Murray prepares to start his 2008 Wimbledon campaign, let me know your thoughts on the Scot's chances. Email me on Dave.Tickner@bskyb.com, and we'll get the best comments out on site.

1712 Clement takes a 2-1 lead over Bjorkman.

1711 Nadal is safely through to what looks like one of the ties of the second round against Gulbis. The Spaniard romped the tie-break 7-0, but he was given a real test by Beck in three close sets. Murray v Santoro is up next.

1708 Murray can start his final preparations now: Nadal leads 5-0 in the breaker after a glorious crosscourt running forehand.

1704 Nadal takes the third set against Beck into a tie-break. He'd love to finish the match here, I'm sure.

1700 Beck holds to move 6-5 up on Nadal in the third set. Tricky time for Murray and Santoro: they could be on court in 15 minutes, or Beck could take this to a fourth set.

1658 Schwank saves a break point before holding in his first service game against Roddick. It's 1-1 in the opening set there, and Roddick just seemed to grimace slightly as he chased the final ball of the last point.

1656 Beck isn't going away on Centre. It's 5-5 in the third set now.

1646 Schiavone wins 10-8 in the third. Still no sign of a finish in Georges v Srebotnik, though: it's 11-11 now. The battle of the old gunslingers between Clement and Bjorkman is now one set all, but Clement has a break in the third.

1640 An update on the long final-setters currently taking place: Georges v Srebotnik is now 10-10, while Schiavone has just broken serve to go 9-8 up on Paszek.

1636 Sharapova wraps up victory over Foretz 6-4 in the second. Up next it's Roddick v Eduardo Schwank. No tittering at the back.

1633 French Open quarter-finalist Ernests Gulbis has beaten John Isner, who seems to have overlooked the Importance of Beating Ernests (sorry), in four tight sets out on Court 15. Gulbis sets up a likely second-round clash with Nadal, who is two sets up on Beck. It's on serve in the third.

1626 Andy Roddick will have to wait a little while longer to start his first-round match, as Foretz surprises everyone - not least herself - by breaking Sharapova to cut her deficit to 3-5.

1624 A love service game secures Becker's straght-sets victory. Davydenko might be the highest seed to fall thus far, but it's far from a major shock to see the Russian depart in round one: it's the fifth time it's happened in seven visits to SW19.

1621 Becker is also serving for the match against Davydenko, whose preparation for SW19 - playing on clay in Poland - appears to have backfired.

1620 Almost job done now for Sharapova. She's 5-2 up in the second set with a double break and surely just minutes away from round two.

1617 Number-23 seed Katarina Srebotnik is engaged in something of an epic against Julia Georges of Germany. It's 7-7 in the third set in that one, while Francesca Schiavone is deadlocked at 6-6 in the decider against Tamira Paszek.

1613 Nadal wraps up the second set against Beck, and Murray could well be out on court before too long.

1600 The least-shocking shock of the day looks on the cards now. Becker leads fourth seed Davydenko by two sets to love and with a break in the third.

1557 Radek Stepanek is on course to win his all-Czech first-round clash with Jan Hernych. After edging two tight sets, he's cruising at 5-0 in the third. Sharapova is 2-1 up with a break against Foretz on Court One.

1545 Sharapova cruises through the first set 6-1 without ever playing her best tennis. She's at that dinner party already. Nadal's a break up in the second set against Beck.

1527 Nadal takes out the first set against Beck 6-4 on Centre Court. On Court One, Sharapova is dressed as if she has some pressing social engagement to attend this afternoon and now she's playing like she has places to go and people to see, racing into a 3-0 lead in the opening set.

1523 In the clash of the veterans out on Court 11 it's first blood to Jonas Bjorkman who has taken the first set off Arnaud Clement.

1520 Steady start for the 2004 champion, winning the opening game of the match to 15. On Centre, Rafa has broken Beck to lead 4-3. Better news for his near namesake, though, as Court Two prepares to take another victim: number-four seed Nikolay Davydenko has lost the first set to Benjamin Becker.

1515 The cameramen on Court One are busy, because Maria Sharapova is on court for her clash with France's Stephanie Foretz. Like Fed, she's keen to make a fashion statement on entrance. She's gone for a belted tuxedo-style jacket and shorts. She removes the jacket to reveal a top that, apart from some tailoring at the front, appears to be made of some sort of mesh. Click, click, click go the photographers.

1510 A crunching double-handed backhand takes the left-handed Beck to 0-30 on the Nadal serve. But the French Open king produces three unreturnable first serves - one a slow sliding ace out wide to the ad court - to level the match at 3-3.

1507 Beck still holding his own in the opening skirmishes with much-fancied Nadal. It's on serve, with the German leading 3-2.

1459 Still on serve on Centre, where Beck leads Nadal 2-1. Gasquet, hugely impressive today against a tricky opponent in Fish, produces a couple of outrageous winners in the final game to close out a comfortable 6-3 6-4 6-2 victory. Definitely one of the most impressive performances we've seen in the first round so far after a disappointing year for the Frenchman. Can he repeat his SW19 heroics from last year, when he marched to the last four? Let me know your thoughts: email me on Dave.Tickner@bskyb.com

1451 Gasquet closing on round two now. Already two sets to the good, he leads Fish 4-1 in the third with a double break.

1449 Haas is through to round two, overcoming the loss of the first set against Canas to win the next three 6-4 6-4 6-4.

1445 Rafa Nadal is out on Centre Court, resplendent in his Wimbledon whites, warming up for his first-round clash with Andreas Beck. Murray v Santoro, remember, follows that one.

1430 Over on Court One, Gasquet has taken a two-set lead against Fish, while Haas leads Canas by two sets to one and has a break in the fourth.

1427 After a marathon first set, Williams has swept through the second 6-1 to end the challenge of Britain's Cavaday. Another British opponent awaits Venus in round two after Keothavong's three-set victory this afternoon.

1423 Keothavong puts a forehand right on the baseline to set up a second match point. King dumps the ball into the net to send the Court Two crowd wild. Keothavong will face the winner of the Williams-Cavaday clash, and that looks increasingly likely to be the defending champion who now leads 4-1 in the second set with two breaks of serve.

1422 King saves it with a courageous deep forehand that Keothavong can't get back into play.

1421 A double fault from King takes us to a fourth deuce, and this time Keothavong does find a winner - a slapped forehand crosscourt - to move to match point.

1419 Keothavong forces a third deuce on the King serve. She's pulling out some superb winners at game point down, but can't find them at deuce to set up match point.

1417 Vliegen takes the third set against Robredo on a tie-break, but still trails 2-1.

1416 Williams breaks Cavaday to take a 2-1 lead in the second set. The Brit's put up a real show for the Centre Court crowd, and she'll have to dig deep now to stay in this second set. A rasping forehand winner down the line take Keothavong to deuce on the King serve and within two points of victory.

1413 Keothavong just a game away from round two now. King took her to deuce, but the Brit fired the biggest serve of the match to move to game point and closed out the game. She leads 5-3 in the third. Cavaday has held serve at the start of her second set against Venus.

1410 An interesting second-round clash for the umpires and commentators in the women's singles: Aleksandra Wozniak will take on 31st seed Caroline Wozniacki. They should be doubles partners.

1408 Croatia's Marin Cilic is through to round two after a 6-4 6-3 7-6 victory over Edouard Roger-Vasselin. He'll play Nieminen next.

1406 Cavaday saves the first set point on her own serve, but Williams closes out the set 7-5 on the breaker. Can Cavaday maintain that standard in the second set? Over on Court Two, a superb crosscourt winner sets up break point for Keothavong and she converts to move 4-3 ahead and within a couple of games of the second round.

1405 Cavaday dumps a backhand halfway up the net at 4-5 in the breaker to give Venus two set points.

1402 The players change ends on Centre with Venus leading Cavaday 4-2 in their breaker.

1400 Keothavong is taken to deuce on her serve, but finds a big forehand winner and levels at 3-3 in the final set when a King forehand sails wide.

1359 Cavaday holds, and against the odds she's taken the defending champion to a first-set tie-break.

1355 Williams holds again to force Cavaday to serve to stay in the set for a second time. On Court Two, King finally holds serve in a long game to move 3-2 up on Keothavong in their deciding set. Gasquet, already a set up on Fish, now has an early break in the second while Haas has turned things round against Canas: after losing the first, he's won the second and leads 5-1 in the third.

1351 Cavaday is still plugging away on Centre, holding serve to level the first set against Venus at 5-5. The partisan Centre Court crowd are really starting to get behind the British battler.

1346 Keothavong shows some lovely touch around the net to break back on Court Two and cut the deficit to 1-2. Williams holds to leave Cavaday serving to stay in the first set on Centre.

1344 Another swing on Court Two, where King moves 2-0 up in the final set. Cavaday is still battling away on Centre, surviving a couple of break points and several deuces to level the match at 4-4. Gasquet takes the first set 6-3 on Court One.

1337 Williams holds serve to take the lead for the first time. Keothavong is just starting her final set on Court Two. In the second, she finally found some consistency on her serve and forehand, cruising through 6-2. Can she carry that form into the decider.

1332 Keothavong closes out the second set 6-2 to take her clash with King to a decider, while on Centre Cavaday saves one break point with a whipped crosscourt backhand but facing a second dumps the ball into the net. It's level at 3-3 now.

1327 Williams closes the gap to 3-2, while Gasquet looks to have taken control of the opening set in his clash with Mardy Fish after moving 4-1 ahead on Court One.

1323 Cavaday continues to defy the odds on Centre Court, moving into a 3-1 lead over the defending champion Venus Williams, while Keothavong appears to be heading for a final set against King after moving 5-1 clear in the second.

1320 Venus finally gets on the board against Cavaday, who still leads the defending champion 2-1 with a break of serve. Can Cavaday spring one of the all-time Wimbledon shocks? You can let us know your thoughts by emailing me - Dave.Tickner@bskyb.com - and we'll publish the best.

1317 Cavaday consolidates the break to take a 2-0 lead, and already one game more than the red-faced people here were predicting. Richard Gasquet and Mardy Fish have shared the two opening games, and Keothavong goes 4-1 up with a double break in the second set against King.

1313 Astonishing start on Centre. Venus races into a 40-0 lead in the opening game before Cavaday hits back to take the next five points and a 1-0 lead.

1308 For the first time in the match, Keothavong consolidates a break of serve with a hold to move into a 3-1 second-set lead over King. Meanwhile, Cavaday is about to get under way against Venus.

1305 An air shot from Keothavong draws a smile from the British number one, but she breaks to 30 despite that setback to take a 2-1 lead in the second set.

1303 Naomi Cavaday strides out with Venus Williams on Centre Court. An uncharitable office conversation speculates on how many games the plucky Brit will take off the defending champion. There's no advance on one.

1301 Keothavong looks like she's starting to get frustrated out on Court Two, but she battles back from 15-40 to level the second set 1-1.

1253 We've got our first result of the day: Jarkko Nieminen is through to round two after his opponent, Wayne Odesnik, withdrew after losing the first set 6-3.

1251 Guillermo Canas has taken the opening set 6-3 in his first-round clash with Tommy Haas.

1250 After a routine hold, King quickly sets up three set points on the Keothavong serve. She needs just one after Keothavong misses a string of chances to pass King at the net. Keothavong has made this hard for herself now after three shocking games on her own serve in that first set.

1240 Two holds in a row on Court Two and it's 4-4 now between Keothavong and King.

1236 King holds serve for the second time in the match to take a 4-3 lead on Court Two. Meanwhile, perennial Wimbledon favourite Sebastien Grosjean is a set to the good against Potito Starace on Court 16.

1233 Keothavong's serve deserts her again as she slips to 0-30. She battles back to 30-30 but a double fault costs her the game. Four breaks of serve in the opening six games of this one, which is now level at 3-3 in the opening set.

1231 Robredo has raced through the first set 6-1 against Vliegen out on Court 18.

1228 Keothavong breaks again. She found a superb angle and the sideline to go 15-30 up before King netted a simple volley to face two break points. One was enough as King failed to get a big forehand from Keothavong back into play. If the Brit can get in a groove on here serve she should have too much for her American opponent on the evidence of the opening exchanges.

1226 Much better from Keothavong, finding her range on the first serve and levelling matters with a straightforward love game.

1223 The first hold of serve in the King v Keothavong match gives the American a 2-1 lead.

1220 King breaks back immediately. So 1-1 on Court Two, while elsewhere 23rd seed Tommy Robredo has raced into a 3-0 lead over Belgian Kristof Vliegen.

1218 Perfect start for Keothavong as she breaks King in the opening game of their match. Keothavong's a double rarity for British women at Wimbledon: she qualified automatically and is ranked higher than her opponent.

1204 It's another glorious sunny day in SW19, with temperatures in the low 20s Celsius or 70s in old money.

1203 The players are out on the outside courts, including Keothavong on Court Two. We'll keep you up to date with that one here, while you can let us know your thoughts on any of the action throughout the day by emailing me: Dave.Tickner@bskyb.com

1148 Welcome to day two of the Championships. Should be a good one. Later, of course, we've got Andy Murray kicking off his SW19 campaign against his favourite player, Fabrice Santoro. But there's plenty of intriguing matches - and British interest - before that clash. Naomi Cavaday faces a daunting task, walking out first on Centre to face the defending champion Venus Williams. Anne Keothavong is first up on Court Two, and also faces American opposition in Vania King. And with Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick and Jelena Jankovic all in action it promises to be a cracking day's action. And, to top it off, the Williams sisters join forces in the doubles on Court Three this evening.
