Marat Safin breezed into the second round of the Australian Open, being joined by fellow seeds David Ferrer and Juan Martin Del Potro
Del Potro, Ferrer also through to second round
Marat Safin cruised through to the second round of the Australian Open and then stated his desire to enjoy playing tennis again.
The 2005 champion took only one hour and 45 minutes to brush aside Ivan Navarro 6-3 6-3 6-4 to set-up a second round clash with another Spaniard, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
"I don't want to get stressed, I don't want to plan anything," Safin said after the match.
Relax
"I want to play and be relaxed, no stress. Whatever comes, comes. It's great for me. Just try to be in shape, be able to run around the court. Like this it's much easier to play tennis.
"At least I want to enjoy it. I don't want to suffer anymore, I don't want to get stressed, I don't want to feel bad on the court anymore."
The 28-year-old Safin admitted that tennis gets harder with age, but is not ready for retirement just yet.
"It's getting tougher and tougher with the age, especially with the injuries I've had throughout the years. It's not an easy game, let's put it this way, especially if half of the time you've been injured.
"When you are young, 20 years old, 19 years old, you're coming, everything is new, it's exciting to come and play the big matches. With the years, you start to feel the pressure."
Marathons
Elsewhere in the men's draw, 11th-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer struggled to a five-set victory over German Denis Gremelmayr, losing two tie-breaks but managing to win 6-1 6-7 6-1 6-7 6-4.
Ferrer will play qualifier Dominik Hrbaty after the Slovakian recorded a four set victory over John Isner of America.
It was not such a good day for Ferrer's countrymen, as three top names were dumped out of the Australian Open in the first round.
Feliciano Lopez, seeded 27th, lost a titanic battle with Gilles Muller, eventually falling to a 6-3 7-6 4-6 4-6 16-14 defeat.
Former French Open champions Carlos Moya and Juan Carlos Ferrero were also beaten by Evgeny Korolev and Fabrice Santoro respectively.
New world number six Juan Martin Del Potro had a smooth ride into the second round, defeating Mischa Zverev, of Germany, 6-3 6-4 6-2 in the Hisense Arena. He will play another German, Florian Mayer in the last 64.
