US Open champion will take on all four grand slams next season
A packed schedule of around 16 tournaments including all four grand slams awaits former world number one Kim Clijsters next year.
The 26-year-old, who became a first time mother during her two-year time out, made an unbelievable return to the sport with a victory at this year's US Open.
The triumph marked her first Grand Slam success since she won the same event at Flushing Meadows in 2005 and saw her go from a player with no ranking to 19th in the world.
Now Clijsters seems to have the taste for Grand Slam glory, but says her calendar for next year was predominantly arranged around her newly expanded family.
"I try to spread out my trips abroad," Clijsters said. "The most important thing is that it remains doable as a family."
Busy
The Belgian, who was world number one in 2003, has only one more tournament to play this year in Luxembourg next month and kicks off a busy 2010 in Brisbane, Australia followed by the Australia Open.
Clijsters then intends to play the first round of the Fed Cup in Poland in February ahead of travelling to the United States.
The champion's next step will be Roland Garros and Wimbledon before venturing to Beijing and Doha in October.
Although 12 scheduled competitions in four continents with possibly more to be added at a later date seems a lot to take on, Clijsters claims it is far less than what she played before her retirement in 2007.
"It takes a lot more planning than a few years ago...For a tennis player I don't think it's that busy. I've taken out a lot of tournaments that I used to play when I wasn't a mother," she said.
"It was up to me to say, with Jada, our daughter, how long I want to travel, where I want to travel and where not."
