American to bid for fifth AEGON Championships title

American Andy Roddick will bid for a record fifth AEGON Championships trophy when he competes at the Queen's Club in June. The world number eight, who won consecutive titles from 2003-05 before reclaiming the silverware from Lleyton Hewitt in 2007, is the latest high-profile player to confirm his entry after Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro signed up earlier this month. An ankle injury forced Roddick to retire from his semi-final against James Blake last year, but the American went on to put in a superb display at Wimbledon.

Epic

After seeing off Queen's champion Andy Murray in the final four, Roddick lost narrowly to Roger Federer in an epic five-set decider. The 27-year-old former U.S. Open champion has continued to enjoy that rich vein of form and has already won 20 matches this year - more than any other player on the ATP World Tour. "I love the whole month in London. Over the years I've had a lot of success at The Queen's Club and I still say it's the best grass court in the world," said Roddick. "It plays perfectly and so the AEGON Championships is a great way to prepare for Wimbledon." Roddick's shattering Wimbledon defeat last year marked the third time he has fallen foul of world number one Federer in the final. However, the American is hoping 2010 will be the year he can finally make his mark on SW19.
Opportunity
"If you look at my grass court season (in 2009) as a whole, it went well," he added. "Wimbledon was a very good event for me. I would have loved to have changed the last five minutes of it but I look forward to another opportunity. "The more you distance yourself from it, the more you start remembering the better things about it. "I promise you, I wish more than anything that I would have won that tournament but I'm still going to move on and keep going with the plan that we've set in place, because I feel like it is working. "I'll always want to win that tournament and I view last year as something to build on."
