Top seed comes up trumps in straight-sets victory

Stanislas Wawrinka has scooped his second career title with a comprehensive straight-sets victory over Victor Hanescu in the final of the ATP Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco. The Swiss top-seed collected the Casablanca crown after seeing off the third-seeded Romanian 6-2 6-3 to win his first tournament in four years. Wawrinka, who also won his maiden title on clay in Umag, struggled on his serve in the opening stages of the match but had too much in his locker to be troubled by the world number 43. Wawrinka broke Hanescu twice in the first set and clinched the opener despite landing only 40 per cent of his first serves and double-faulting twice. The world number 23 improved his first-serve delivery in the second set and he raced to a 5-1 lead after winning four games on the spin. Third seed Hanescu rallied for 5-3, but Wawrinka saved two break points in the ninth game before clinching victory.
