Second seed defeats Dulko in back-and-forth final

Aravane Rezai secured victory in the final of the Swedish Open after a hard-fought three-set win over Gisela Dulko. The 23-year-old Frenchwoman edged number four seed Dulko to take the match 6-3 4-6 6-4 at the WTA Tour event in Bastad. Rezai, who had lost her previous two contests with the Argentinian, controlled the first set - breaking Dulko in the fifth game. Dulko hit back to break Rezai's serve early in the second set but the second seed then levelled matters, before having two points to take a 4-2 lead and move to the brink of victory. But the opportunity was squandered and Dulko then reeled off four of the next five games to take the match into a decider. Rezai quickly assumed control in the final set, surging into a 4-0 lead that Dulko looked unable to recover from. However, the 25-year-old responded to narrow the gap before securing a break after saving match point. But she then dropped her own serve to hand Rezai the fourth title of her career.
