Olympic champions continue dominance in men's team event

China secured a fourth consecutive world gymnastics championship title in the men's team event while Great Britain had to settle for seventh place in Rotterdam. Olympic champions China scored 274.997 to finish 1.228 points ahead of Asian rivals Japan, with Germany clinching the bronze medal. Japan still had a slim hope of taking the title entering the final rotation but Kazuhito Tanaka fell on the horizontal bar to remove any doubt over who the winners would be. Britain had qualified for the final in fourth place but a number of mistakes cost them on Thursday as they finished behind the USA, France and Russia as well as the three medallists. But Dan Purvis, who will contest the floor and all around finals, thinks the team should still be proud of what they have achieved. "It's been a great experience and the team qualifying for our first ever team final is a fantastic result for British Gymnastics," he said. "We came into the final with a realistic dream of a medal after qualifications but a few mistakes cost us today, which I am sure we will learn from."
