Fernando Verdasco will take on Nicolas Almagro in an all-Spanish final at the US Men’s Clay Court Championship.

Fourth seed Verdasco ended the run of Colombia's Santiago Giraldo in the opening semi-final as he broke his opponent five times on the way to a 6-4 7-5 victory.

Verdasco had already progressed to Saturday’s doubles final in Houston alongside David Marrero but will now take centre stage on Sunday as well.

Almagro was due to play home favourite Sam Querrey in the other last-four clash but the American had to withdraw with a back injury, handing the third seed a walkover.

Verdasco will be going for his sixth career ATP title in Houston while clay-court specialist Almagro will be aiming for his 13th.

"He's really dangerous on clay. He's serving well. It will be a nice final. We are going to do our best." Almagro said of Verdasco on the ATP’s official website.
