The Indian Aces lead the race for top spot as the International Premier Tennis League reaches its final leg in Dubai.
Roger Federer’s presence in the Aces team could not prevent them from suffering a 29-22 defeat against Novak Djokovic’s UAE Royals in New Delhi on Monday.
The top two players in the men’s game produced an entertaining encounter in the closing singles, with Federer winning a shootout to break a 5-5 tie.
But World No 1 Djokovic secured an overall match victory for the Royals by preventing Federer from forcing a super shootout, leaving them just three points adrift of the Aces with three games remaining.
Manila Mavericks are sitting alongside the Royals, also three points behind top spot, after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga inspired them to a 23-17 win over bottom side Singapore Slammers.
Mavericks veteran Mark Phillippoussis will be hoping to maintain his unbeaten run in the remaining ‘legends’ clashes.
Serena Williams helped Singapore end their winless run during her stay with the Slammers, but her absence was felt in India as the strugglers slipped to three defeats.
The Aces will start Thursday’s round of matches with a clash against the Slammers, while the Royals take on the Mavericks in the later match.
You can watch all the action from the International Premier Tennis League this Thursday on Sky Sports 3, starting at midday.
