WWE: Shane McMahon and AJ Styles clash on SmackDown
Wednesday 29 March 2017 09:22, UK
An action-packed SmackDown saw AJ Styles' pursuit of Shane McMahon reach its dramatic conclusion, while there was chaos in the women's division.
Styles and McMahon's simmering conflict came to a head, with McMahon outfoxing Styles and luring him into a stare down in the middle of the ring.
Everything looked to be on track and maybe an apology was on the cards from Styles but after making his way between the ropes, McMahon unloaded and the pair trade blows that ends with Shane taking to the skies and Ambrose thrown across the announcers' table!
Meanwhile, Randy Orton and Baron Corbin went toe to toe, while the aftermath saw repercussions for the Wrestlemania line-up.
Having blocked an early RKO it was Corbin on the front foot, landing a big right hand after his early assault and then launching Orton into the steel post.
Having escaped the first count of the bout, Orton found himself in a chinlock but the tide turned as Orton responded to being thrown to the corner by raising a boot - which sets up clothesline assault.
Soon it's time for Orton to dish out some heavy-metal treatment as he slammed Corbin onto the ring steps before landing with the IEDDT.
With Dean Ambrose now in attendance, Orton remained on the front foot and he sealed victory with the RKO - but the fall-out saw Ambrose accept Corbins's Mania challenge before the ultimate Dirty Deeds sign-off.
John Cena dished out the ultimate redemption after Fandango's fashion police tickets, a trademark STF alongside Nikki - who handed out the same treatment to Breezy Bella - ends with Fandango and Breezy tapping out!
Kicking off the evening was the Smackdown Tag Team Championship with America Alpha putting the gold on the line against the Usos.
After a thrilling exchange, Jordan's belly-to-belly suplex looked to have the champs on the front foot but the Usos stormed back with Jey going for a roll-up on Gable, who escaped a two-count.
Jey continued his assault before tagging in Jimmy, who went for the victory himself, whose Superfly Splash led to another two-count which Gable escaped before unloading with another belly to belly.
With Alpha attempting to set-up the Bulldog Combination, Jimmy made his move allowing Jey to dropkick Jordan off the apron, and with victory in sight, Gable was sent into the crowd and Jey landed a Superkick to become the new Smackdown tag-team champions.
Elsewhere, there was uproar in the Smackdown women's division and maybe a taste of what's to come at Wrestlemania and the Four-Way title match.
The match between Becky Lynch and Carmella was hijacked by Mickie James and Alexa Bliss - James Ellsworth found himself in the shake-up too as the match was declared a no contest.
