WWE Smackdown results: Dolph Ziggler beats Daniel Bryan in Gauntlet Match
Show Off and Submission Specialist clocked by Bad News Barrett
Friday 20 March 2015 16:41, UK
Dolph Ziggler bested Daniel Bryan on Smackdown to win a spellbinding Gauntlet Match featuring WrestleMania’s Intercontinental Title challengers.
The Show Off and The Submission Specialist met in the final encounter on Thursday night, after Stardust, R-Truth, Dean Ambrose and Luke Harper had been defeated, with Ziggler securing the victory following a Zig Zag.
Ziggler and Bryan shared a handshake post-match but their show of respect was interrupted by reigning Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett, with the Brit whacking both Superstars with Bull Hammer Elbows.
Ambrose had got on a roll early in Smackdown’s Gauntlet Match, overcoming Stardust and R-Truth, though The Lunatic Fringe’s momentum was crushed when he was vanquished by Harper’s clothesline-powerbomb combination.
Harper, however, was instantly stopped in his tracks by Bryan, tapping out to the fan favourite’s eye-catching leg hold, before Bryan and Ziggler wowed fans in Kansas City with a wrestling clinic.
Elsewhere, Randy Orton delivered yet another beating to members of The Authority, though his primary target, WrestleMania opponent Seth Rollins, managed to scarper from danger.
Orton pounced after Rollins and Kane had been beaten by Roman Reigns in a handicap match, flooring Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury aka J&J Security with RKOs and perhaps showing Rollins the fate that may befall him at the Show of Shows on March 29.
Plus, Paige rolled up Brie Bella as AJ Lee and Nikki Bella bickered at the commentary booth, while Natalya’s powerbomb on El Torito allowed the Hart Dungeon graduate, Cesaro and Tyson Kidd to down the bull and Los Matadores grapplers Diego and Fernando in six-Superstar action.
