In depth

Verdict

David Pipe's Irish point-to-point winner, Quaddick Lake, is potentially well treated on his rules debut over fences judged by the pick of his hurdling form but may not represent great value so it may pay to look elsewhere for the winner of this contest. Colin Tizzard's Classic Clover has struggled against the handicapper since winning at Newton Abbot in June and of more interest may be recent Worcester hurdles winner Shergill, who can race off the same mark today and represents the in-form yard of Nigel Twiston-Davies but he has been pulled up in two previous starts over the larger obstacles. Dasher Reilly is readily discounted and preference is for Jonjo O'Neill's VICTORY SURGE, who ran too badly to be true on his chasing debut at Worcester last month and he looks worth another chance in a race that should not take a great deal of winning.
