In depth

Verdict

Aureate is the suggestion to take this handicap, while Wildfell Hall, Hernando's Boy and Puy D'Arnac can all go well. The selection comes from an in form yard, acts on any ground and over the trip, and remains on a competitive mark despite top weight, so he can go in again. Wild Fell Hall won over 12 furlongs a couple of times last summer and steps up markedly in trip here, which may not suit. In any case he looks a bit too high in the weights for us. Hernando's Boy was a fast ground c&d scorer in November but this 6lb higher mark does not make him look such an attractive proposition back here and Puy D'Arnac who won a maiden hurdle here in December and went close at Doncaster back on the level recently, may be a better bet. Mister Arjay has won over the track and the trip, but just looks a shade too high in the weights and in an intriguing handicap stablemate Aureate gets the vote.
