In depth

Verdict

Stancomb Wills is nothing special but should make the most of this opportunity, with only Woodland Lodge and Mind How You Go likely to prove troublesome. Mark Tompkins has his string in good order at present so maybe that will rub off on Stancomb Wills who was placed on his final two starts as a juvenile, at Beverley and Ayr. The fact that he only beat one home on his return behind Quizzene in a Sandown handicap makes him no good thing here, but that was a better race than this, and the return to maiden company should help his cause. As long as he stays the mile and a half, he should finally open his account before going back into moderate handicaps. Woodland Lodge was fancied to give Glistening a race on his Thirsk debut but went out like a light when the pace quickened. He can only improve and can make the frame, while Mind How You Go, successful in a bumper and over hurdles, was not disgraced behind Indigo Cat in a useful maiden at Lingfield, but will surely be tapped for toe here on the faster ground. Stancomb Wills is the pick.
