Verdict

Last year’s Chester Vase winner Us Army Ranger failed to improve on his second in the Derby and was a beaten favourite on his reappearance at Naas. He finished just behind MIDTERM in the Champion Stakes at Ascot in October and the latter should have come on for last month’s comeback in the John Porter at Newbury - he'll appreciate this longer trip so gets the nod. Red Verdon has not raced since runner-up in the Group 1 Grand Prix De Paris last summer but is not out of this on that form while Western Hymn picked up a Listed race at Kempton in November but had finished behind Duretto in the St Simon at Newbury before that. Diamonds Pour Moi was beaten only a length in last year’s Cheshire Oaks and won a Listed event in France subsequently so could go well on her return.
