Verdict

A chance is taken with BEACON LODGE ahead of Prime Defender and Inxile. An intriguing contest in which impressive course and distance winner Icelandic must be respected particularly if the rain, which the former Italian based sprinter requires, were to fall. In any respect, it's not easy to carry a penalty and that also counts against Inxile although one suspects that we haven't seen the best of him yet as he's had just eight starts and his half-brother Tax Free improved with age. Quiet Elegance hasn't progressed as well as Inxile but she did lower his colours in a maiden and remains unexposed but she has a good bit to find as does Max One Two Three who should be monitored closely. Knot In Wood gained due reward for his perseverance with back to back successes at the end of last term and may be able to make his mark in Pattern races. Prime Defender has struggled to score in Group races and hasn't won for two years but he's not been beaten far on a number of those starts and should be a force to be reckoned with at this level. Beacon Lodge has a good deal more to prove having had his 2008 campaign restricted to just two starts. He wasn't disgraced on either outing though and had been good enough to beat Stimulation in the Horris Hill Stakes in 2007. That was over seven as was his other juvenile victory so there's a concern with regard to the suitability of this trip but he hasn't looked short of speed in his career so we'll put Beacon Lodge forward at a price.
