Verdict

It is very hard to escape the claims of Alexander Goldrun, who is fancied to deliver the goods today; possibly at the main expense of and Red Bloom and Hazarista, while Karen's Caper will be a big threat if she is allowed to run. The 1,000 Guineas winner Virginia Waters also has to be respected even though things have not gone her way lately, while Penkenna Princess will appreciate the ground and can do her bit to ensure this high-class event is no cake-walk for the principle players near the finish. It would also be folly to rule out a bold bid from Something Exciting, who is fancied to at least confirm her superiority over Secret History over this shorter trip. Red Bloom has won at this level already and is a classy filly that rates as the major threat to the Jim Bolger-trained selection. However, like Hazarista, she was no match for Alexander Goldrun's turn of foot when the met at The Curragh in June. And, off the same terms, she looks up against the wall this time. Karen's Caper is doubtful at the overnight stage but can figure strongly should there be a change of heart. She is a tough individual that has not finished improving yet. However, Alexander Goldrun just looks a cut above at this stage and she will take a world of stopping if she runs her race.
