In depth

Verdict

A furiously competitive Listed contest, where Coeur Courageux is tentatively forwarded as the one to be on. Museeb, Cupid's Glory and Council Member are very much respected, while Wise Dennis had an obvious excuse for his below par effort when he last raced and he could easily bounce back here. Wise Dennis had previously shown progressive form and won in this grade at York under a cool ride from Kieren Fallon. The partnership remain in tact this afternoon and a bold bid cannot be ruled out. Council Member was drawn in the car park when he did so well in finishing seventh in the Jersey Stakes last month; an effort that gives him solid place claims now that he tries a mile for the first time. A similar comment applies to Museeb, who is closely matched with the Godolphin-owned colt and there is unlikely to be much between them if they run to the form of their last encounter. Cupid's Glory had a blinding juvenile campaign and will be a major force if he has trained on. The nagging doubt with him is the form of his stable's runners, though. Several of his stablemates have been running as if in need of the outing and, in the absence of a reliable betting guide at the overnight stage, he may be best watched on is first start of the season. That is definitely not the case with Coeur Courageux, who takes a significant ease in grade after pulling too hard in the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket in June. David Flood has freshened him up since then and, with his previous course and distance form with Proclamation now looking very solid, Coeur Corageux looks a cracking bet to bounce back this afternoon.
