      Verdict

A fascinating line-up for the Gordon Stakes sees Yellowstone nominated as the selection ahead of Aqaleem and Hearthstead Maison. Listen to these for credentials of these runners. Aqaleem was third to Authorized in the Derby. Mores Wells was fifth in the Irish Derby behind Soldier Of Fortune. Heron Bay who won the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. Yellowstone and Lion Sands who were third and fourth, respectively, in the King Edward VII Stakes at the same meeting. Raincoat finished runner-up in the Dante and was then eleventh in the French Derby. Tranquil Tiger, who followed up his Royal Ascot Hampton Court Stakes fifth with a good Listed win at Newmarket. Add to this list Hearthstead Maison, who comes here as an improver from a stable that does well at this meeting - he landed a valuable Newmarket handicap off topweight last time - then you have a very good race, in which our selection is Yellowstone because he was probably unsuited by the uneven pace at Royal Ascot and he has since gone on to run a very good race when fourth in the Eclipse Stakes. Okay, he has kept coming up short in Group races so far and he has ground to make up on Aqaleem, who was five places ahead of him in the Epsom Derby, but he can set the record straight today for King George-winning partnership of Aidan O'Brien and Johnny Murtagh.
