In depth

Verdict

Cordell, Dream Eater and Paveroc form the shortlist in this maiden and the vote is given to Cordell. The selection has shaped with plenty of encouragement on his two starts to date and this colt from the Richard Hannon yard makes easily the most appeal in a tricky race for punters to fathom. The fact that the stable's 2-year-olds are going well is another big plus for the selection. Dream Eater finished in mid-division at Newmarket last time in a better race than this and the form of that race has worked out well. He pulled too hard on that occasion but if he can settle better today then he should be capable of making the frame. Paveroc tackles this trip for the first time and he was narrowly beaten behind Dream Eater in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Ascot last time. This step-up in trip will suit as he was doing his best work at the finish that day so he has to enter calculations. Green Diamond, House, Herrbee and Royalist all make plenty of appeal on breeding and these newcomers are certainly worth noting in the market. However, Cordell has got racecourse experience on his side and he can put that to good use and land the prize.
