Verdict

Pausanias needs a market check but the experience of CAPTAIN BERTIE may just prove too much; Sinadinou should run well while plenty of the other newcomers have claims on paper. Our pick made up ground hand over fist on his Newbury debut, staying on from eighth with a furlong to go to take a never-nearer third. The winner of that race had previously found one of Richard Hannon's too good at Salisbury, so the in-form trainer should know where he stands with Captain Bertie and therefore support for Pausanias would be compelling. Hannon took this race with a newcomer in 2007 and landed the race again last year, so with juvenile success already this week it'd be little surprise were this precociously bred sort, who like our selection holds an entry in a valuable Sales race later on this year, were to make a winning debut. Sinadinou is a cheap, already gelded horse but he ran well enough on debut to deserve to take his chance, but we feel some of the other newcomers may prove too talented for him, possibly starting with Sagramor who is from a family the trainer knows well and should have the speed for this track on breeding. The Mongoose represents quality connections and 7f seems a suitable starting point for this Montjeu colt, while Clive Cox's juveniles are going well so Aerial Acclaim needs a check too. Fine Art Dealer cost connections a packet and looks Gary Moore's main contender ahead of Hurricane Spear but we'll side with experience here in the shape of Captain Bertie.
