      Verdict

New Decade will no doubt improve for his debut at Ripon, but he was never in contention there and Haafkry makes most appeal of those with experience. He was placed for the second time in three starts over C&D last week and, if handling the soft ground, he should prove the one to beat. However, he looks likely to start a short-price today and a chance is taken on Bryan Smart's newcomer PTOLEMAIC, whose half-brother was placed on soft ground and who won't have to be anything special to make a winning debut.
