In depth

Verdict

You might as well roll the dice on this one, with plenty of familiar faces including Connect, Corridor Creeper, Smokin Beau, Henry Hall, Whistler and Blackheath among the field, but we will give another chance to Cape Royal, with Artie and Ptarmigan Ridge others that could go well. The selection ran well off today's mark when second to Salviati at Newbury last time, but he is weighted to get his revenge, although he is closely-weighted with Whistler based on that form. A number of these come here on the back of a Stewards Cup run, including Raccoon, who is a course and distance winner and could go well, and Artie, who does not look too badly handicapped on the best of his form. Dancing Mystery is arguably back to a winning mark, as is Smokin Beau, while Ptarmigan Ridge took advantage of a fair mark to score last time, and is only three pounds higher in the ratings now. It is a very competitive way to start the Haydock card and maybe Cape Royal can get the better of Artie.
