In depth

Verdict

TRANSFORMER can take this trappy handicap at the expense of Cape Merien and Jiggalong. William Knight's gelding is yet to get his head infront after nine starts but his recent effort around here in an apprentices contest was far from shabby and under stronger handling this afternoon, we are hopeful of a first success. Cape Merien won well at Windsor before bombing out spectacularly at Yarmouth. Unseen on the racecourse since, it is to be hoped that any ills have been ironed out. Jiggalong should appreciate this trip on breeding. On the negative, he has been found out in plating class in the past. Chanrossa is one of the more expensive purchases in the field. The handicapper has dropped her down to 60 so connections can have no complaints. Brian Meehan has had plenty of winners of late so it would be no surprise to see Park Melody go well. Bubses Boy has left Michael Bell having won a Yarmouth claimer. We are not sure that the former handler has lost too much sleep in the interim. Salybia Bay was a distant second on her most recent start. Surprisingly, she has actually been dropped 1lb down the ratings since. Mediterranean Sea is likely to be a big price. Closely related to a number of middle distance winners, she had been tried in pretty hot maiden company and has accordingly been handicapped on those efforts. A race typical of tonight's fare and Transformer can prove best placed to prosper.
