Coeur de Lionne gets the seal of approval over Patavian, Recruit and Copernican, with Filios best watched on his debut. In truth not many of these have really caught the eye yet, but there was hope to be gleaned from Coeur de Lionn's first effort over the course-and-distance 17 days ago. Sixth to much more fancied stablemate Monzante, he shaped well after not getting the best of runs, and will be a lot sharper now. This son of Invincible Spirit is a half-brother to Jadalee, and the dam is a half-sister to Sir Percy no less, so if breeding counts for anything, he should make up into a nice middle-distance sort next year. Patavian has been slow into stride at both Newbury and Chepstow, but at least has experience, as does Recruit, although he has been confined to class 5 affairs, and this is a grade higher. Copernican will be all the better for his debut here 12 days ago, and is entered in both the Racing Post Trophy and Vodafone Derby. Filios holds no fancy entries but hails from a top yard so should be noted for future reference, with Coeur de Lionne preferred on this occasion.
