      In depth

      Verdict

We will short list two here - Newnham and Montosari - and select Newnham. Newnham has been dropped two pounds for his course and distance run last time, which means he is just a pound above a winning mark and, accordingly, has to be considered - that run here last time was not too bad. Turner's Touch won four times between December 2005 and April 2006 but is now six pounds higher in the ratings than for the best of them and has a 168-day break to overcome. Border Edge showed that he can compete at this level with a good Kempton run last time, while course and distance winner Montosari is back to a winning mark and should be given some thought. Finally, Makai is back to a winning mark, but that victory came at Southwell over a mile and he is unproven at today's trip, and Serramanna probably has a little to prove from his current mark. All of which returns us to the selection, which is Newnham.
