In depth

Verdict

Today's feature event can go the way of Anna Pavlova at the expense of Random Call, Star Cluster, Queen Of Fire and a whole host of other worthy adversaries. There are certainly many in with chances here, but Anna Pavlova fully deserves to be in the line-up and can gain her first Listed success. Richard Fahey's filly won three times on fast ground last year, but then had the guts to overcome testing conditions in beating Sir Gerard in Haydock's Silver Bowl just less than three weeks ago. That came as no surprise to anyone that witnessed her chasing home the useful Peppertree Lane at York the time before, and do not be put off by the fact that she tries further than a mile for the first time, as Richard Fahey is even toying with the idea of running the daughter of Danehill Dancer in next month's Irish Oaks. She does face tough opposition here, with Random Call perhaps the one to beat. She scrambled home in a heavy-ground Yarmouth maiden last October, but by all accounts has been working extremely well at home and it would not be the first time that Sir Michael Stoute has produced a filly off the gallops to go close in a big race. Star Cluster lost nothing in defeat against the in-form Red Evie on her belated return at Leicester so has to be considered, and along with Irish raider Missisipi Star, Princess Nada and Cross Channel, can make things interesting for Anna Pavlova who is taken to gain her biggest victory to date.
