In depth

Verdict

From a short list containing Mirthful, Cast In Gold and Darrfonah, we will take a chance on Mirthful, unless the market says markedly otherwise. Cast In Gold has shown solid maiden form in finishing runner-up in each start. Maybe she will make it third-time lucky today. Darrfonah was third in the Lowther Stakes last time and rates as a very solid contender. The interesting newcomers are Dangerous Dancer, Hi Calypso, the Barry Hills-trained half-sister to Distant Music, Mirthful, Noojoom and Basaata, who are both trained by Marcus Tregoning, the 105,000 guineas purchase Queens Quay, and the 82,000 euros acquisition Sues Surprise, who is also trained by Barry Hills, but the others to have run have not shown much. All of which returns us to the selection, which is Mirthful.
