Another competitive contest in which plenty have claims including Country Reel, Danger Over and Ashdown Express but the vote goes to Somnus, who showed improved form when returned to this trip at Haydock last time. The selection failed to stay the seven furlongs of the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot previously but ran out the ready winner of a conditions race over this trip at Haydock and is taken to follow up under Kevin Darley. Country Reel made an encouraging return at Newcastle last month on a softer surface than ideal and rates the main danger. He strictly holds Country Reel and Ashdown Express on running at Gosforth Park and should beat them both again. Needwood Blade and Polar Way look to face a stiff task giving weight away all round, while the three-year-old Peace Offering is not certain to stay today's longer trip. Saddad and The Tatling are others worthy of a mention but Somnus holds solid claims on his running last time and looks the one to be on.
