Verdict

Overstep is the only one of these who arrives on the back of a win but that was only a maiden at Hamilton. The remaining trio were all beaten in Group races last time with Vigor finding the competition too hot in the Superlative Stakes over 7f here and Astaire running well despite finishing sixth in the July Stakes over track and trip. The latter has every chance but COULSTY is just preferred as he beat three subsequent winners at Leicester before a below par run in the Norfolk and today's extra furlong will suit.

Overstep (IRE) 25-1 (9-5) Smartly away, edged right off rail most of way, made all, clear over 1f out, ridden and stayed on strongly, won at Hamilton 6f 2yo mdn (5) gd beating Morning Post (9-5) by 4l, 5 ran.

Vigor (IRE) 8-1 (9-0) Slightly hampered start, tracked leaders, ridden 2f out, lost place and not much room over 1f out, switched left and no impression, 6th of 8, 6l behind Good Old Boy Lukey (9-0) at Newmarket 7f 2yo Grp 2 (1) gf.
