    Verdict

Not the strongest of handicaps for the track and the vote goes to Vortex while Bond Diamond, Frazzled, Topton and Inverness are others to consider. The selection opened his account in a seven furlong Lingfield maiden in December before showing improved form to finish a close second behind Mystic Man at Leicester on his next start following a five month break. The form of the latter race is working out well with the winner landing the valuable Newbury Spring Cup next time so Vortex appears well treated off just a 1lb higher mark, particularly with the step up to a mile expected to suit. Bond Diamond was a progressive performer last season and started the current campaign in the same manner with a Windsor success in April. Paul Webber's charge was below his best next time but bounced back to form when placed in a competitive Ascot handicap on his latest start so rates a big danger despite a hefty burden. Topton is reaching the veteran stage of his career and has shown little of late but has slipped to an attractive mark and the booking of Jamie Spencer catches the eye while Frazzled has proved a consistent sort on the all-weather and holds place claims if translating the form to turf. James Fanshawe's yard has shown signs of clicking in to top gear after a slow start and the lightly raced Inverness is worth noting on his handicap debut after a promising reappearance in a Kempton maiden earlier in the month.
