In depth

Verdict

Short list material for this open handicap looks to be Mansii, John Keats, Mr Wolf and High Curragh and the tentative selection is John Keats. Jim Goldie's gelding beat Mr Wolf almost for lengths when winning at Thirsk last month and is now 8lb worse with that rival. He also got the better of High Curragh in receipt of 11lbs at Haydock and is now 6lb worse off with him. However, he is in cracking form at present and went very close from this mark last time, so there is every chance he can win again. Mr Wolf is not in great form at present and looks worth taking on again, while Mansii has hung right on his last two runs and that won't be advantageous here, especially after a 4lb rise for not winning. Dickie Le Davoir is an in-and-out performer who was thrashed off this mark last time so looks opposable, and Guertino should be suited by conditions and trip, so looks a better proposition. Not a race to get heavily involved in and the selection will be John Keats.
