In depth

Verdict

Noble Gent needed the run on his debut at Leicester a fortnight ago and is expected to be a different proposition here. Stage Gift and Cote d'Argent can give this Derby entry the most to think about this afternoon. Cote d'Argent was very well fancied when he was introduced at Ayr last month and showed plenty of promise by breaking smartly. However, he got tired near the finish and gave the impression that seven furlongs stretches him to the limit at present. He has obviously shown plenty at home but may need more time judging by the public evidence available so far. Stage Gift is also a Derby entry and is sure to be suited by a step up in trip in due course. He was a touch one paced when he was third behind The Visualiser at Beverley on his latest start and needs to improve on that effort. Especially as Godolphin have a good handle on the worth of that form. Noble Gent is a very similar type to The Visualiser, in that he is very much a long-term prospect. However, he also created the impression that he is capable of winning over this trip by the way he was staying on near the finish at Leicester. That outing will have done Noble Gent the power of good and he looks the obvious one to be with on this occasion.
