In depth

Verdict

Baren De Doc would not be winning out of turn were he to be successful here having found one too good in each of his last two starts but Keith Goldsworthy's gelding may again have to settle for minor honours in a race taken to go to COQ HARDI, who gets the vote ahead of Oncle Kid. Without a win after 19 starts over fences, the last six in the UK, the French import has run some reasonable races in defeat and has to be respected despite disappointing last time. Colin Tizzard's Wasntme won here over two miles last month but is far from certain to stay this far, while Elton looks to be one of the lesser lights in the yard of Philip Hobbs. Neil Mulholland's You Can of Course was nothing out of the ordinary over hurdles and seems no better over fences so is easily discounted in a race taken to go to Coq Hardi. Peter Bowen's gelding has yet to translate his hurdles form to fences but he has shown enough to suggest that a race of this nature would be well within his compass.
