In depth

Verdict

Fair Gale returns to the all-weather surface for the first time since breaking his maiden tag back in December '07. That win was followed by a five month lay-off and three outings this turf season have seen him start a big prices but his most recent Salisbury effort did not reflect those odds. While 12 furlongs is the unknown, that return to form at Salisbury suggested that a victory might not be too far away and today could well be the day for Fair Gale. Novestar put in an uncharacteristic poor effort over the course last time after which his rider reported that he had run flat. It could well be that he is a touch high in the weights at the moment. Kryptonite's last success was achieved over course and distance. He is not the most straight-forward of rides and needs to be produced late. Inch Lodge is more effective on artificial surfaces than turf but could do with some leniency from the assessor. Support for duel course and distance winner Fenners would be of particular significance given his yard but Fair Gale gets the nod.
