Northampton have signed full- back Ahsee Tuala until the end of the season.

Tuala boasts a powerful 6ft, 100kg frame, and will help cover the Saints' loss of England international Ben Foden, who has been ruled out until next season with a knee injury.

The 25-year-old trained with the New Zealand U20s and New Zealand Sevens squads before turning his senior national allegiance to Samoa, for whom he has played one match.

Racing Metro Paris booked a home quarter-final in the European Rugby Champions Cup with a resounding 32-8 win over Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens

Tuala, who will be available for selection in this weekend's LV= Cup game against Wasps, has also played 51 times for Counties Manukau in New Zealand’s ITM Cup, scoring 166 points.

Director of rugby Jim Mallinder told the club's official website: “Ben Foden’s unfortunate injury means that we need cover at full back ahead of what is a challenging few months for us.

“Ahsee is a quality player who can play in a number of positions, and is well known to our other Samoan internationals, who will no doubt help him fit into the culture here at Northampton and the way we do things."
