Former Springbok Joel Stransky said of South Africa's clash with Australia on Saturday: "If we won the game 1-0 it would be ok".
The 1995 World Cup winner appeared on the Sky Sports podcast ahead of his former side's all-important Rugby Championship fixture against Australia in Pretoria.
A 30-23 win over Argentina on the opening weekend remains South Africa's only success of the tournament so far, piling pressure on new coach Allister Coetzee.
Coetzee warned after his side's latest loss - a 41-13 hammering at the hands of New Zealand in Christchurch - that there would be "consequences" for the team, but has resisted the urge to make wholesale changes this week.
There are just three changes to his starting side this week, with half-backs Morne Steyn and Rudy Paige coming into the team at the expense of Elton Jantjies and Faf de Klerk. Stransky believes Steyn is merely a temporary solution to Coetzee's woes in the No 10 jersey, with Handre Pollard still ruled out through injury.
