Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal has claimed there is a cocaine problem within professional rugby in France.

Boudjellal's comments come in the wake of the arrests of Racing 92 lock Ali Williams and Toulon back James O'Connor for allegedly trying to buy cocaine in Paris in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Former All Black Williams was suspended by Racing on Sunday and Boudjellal confirmed on Tuesday that Australia international O'Connor will not escape a similar fate.

"It's only my opinion, but I have the impression that in certain clubs and among many players, coke is very popular," Boudjellal told AFP.

"We've had the alcohol stage, now we're at another one. We can't support that. That needs to stop."

O'Connor, 26, joined Toulon in 2015 and has made 44 appearances for the Top 14 outfit, with his contract up for renewal this summer.

He added to AFP: "It's tough to defend him. We'll talk about it with him.

"He's a 26-year-old kid, I'm neither there to destroy him nor support him. It's complicated.

"When you're under the influence of alcohol, you rarely shine. For James, I blame it more on distress than stupidity. We'll look after him. I know there are things to sort out, but it's not cocaine that will do it for him.

"'He [O'Connor] has reopened the debate about his contract extension. We are not going to renew it.

"We are going to try and manage this season. But I don't want to overwhelm him."
