Alex Cuthbert has been ruled out of the remainder of Wales' summer tour with a shoulder injury.

The winger damaged ligaments in the first half of Wales' 24-6 win over Tonga on Friday, when he was winning his 37th cap, and was replaced by Cory Allen at half-time.

He has flown home from New Zealand and his recovery is expected to take five weeks.

Wales interim head coach Robin McBryde told WalesOnline: "Alex has been in excellent form leading into the tour - and it was there for all to see at Eden Park on Friday - so it's a shame he's had to leave us.

"He's also been a great influence off the field with the younger players in the squad. I know he'll work hard now to be back in action for Cardiff Blues' pre-season."

Despite the loss of Cuthbert and the departures of Kristian Dacey, Tomas Francis, Cory Hill and Gareth Davies to the British and Irish Lions touring party, Wales will not be calling up any reinforcements of their own.
