England back-row Jack Willis will miss the upcoming tour to South Africa after sustaining a "significant multi-ligament injury" to his right knee, Wasps have confirmed.
Willis, who is likely to be out of action for nine to 12 months, suffered the injury in the 57-33 Aviva Premiership semi-final defeat to Saracens on Saturday after being tackled by international team-mate Owen Farrell.
The 21-year-old recently received his first call-up to the England squad ahead of the three-match Test series in South Africa.
However, he will now miss the series against the Springboks, which gets underway at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on June 9, live on Sky Sports.
Wasps confirmed Willis' injury in a statement on Tuesday, which read: "Following consultation with a specialist, it has been determined that Jack Willis sustained a significant multi-ligament injury to his right knee during last Saturday's Aviva Premiership semi-final.
"This includes a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The injury is expected to keep him out of action for a period between nine and 12 months."
