Francois Hougaard’s spectacular effort in South Africa’s win over New Zealand has been named as the International Rugby Players’ Association Try of the Year for 2014.

Hougaard’s try set the Springboks on their way to a 27-25 victory against the All Blacks in the Rugby Championship on October 4.

The scrum-half becomes the third South African to win the award after Jaque Fourie in 2009 and Bryan Habana in 2012.

Hougaard’s effort was selected ahead of Jamie Roberts (Wales), Cornal Hendricks (South Africa), Magali Harvey (Canada) and Jonny May (England).
