Stuart Lancaster has made nine changes for England's final World Cup game against Uruguay

England coach Stuart Lancaster has rung the changes for England's final Rugby World Cup clash against Uruguay on Saturday, calling up Henry Slade and excluding Sam Burgess from the matchday 23.

Outside centre Slade will be joined by his Exeter Chiefs team-mate and winger Jack Nowell alongside scrum-half Danny Care and full-back Alex Goode, who will all get their first taste of World Cup action.

Lancaster has made eight changes in total, with George Ford restored to fly-half and Owen Farrell moved to inside centre for the clash at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

In the pack, Mako Vunipola starts in place of Joe Marler while James Haskell and Nick Easter replace Tom Wood and Ben Morgan in the back row.

Lancaster said: "Brad Barritt and Courtney Lawes are not available this weekend and Ben Morgan and Ben Youngs will not be able to train fully until Thursday.

"This is an opportunity for us to finish the tournament with a strong performance against Uruguay and a chance for the likes of young players such as Jack Nowell and Henry Slade to play in a World Cup.

"We owe it to ourselves and the supporters who have been brilliant throughout. This is an important game for rugby in the north of England and we want to give those people who have been looking forward to this game something to cheer about.

"It's very important that we put a positive, attacking display together and I think the team will reflect that.

"There's a tremendous group of players coming through and some of our most talented players are some of our youngest players. When you look at the back line for this game - and take Danny Care as an old man out of the equation - it's a pretty exciting back line."

Reflecting on England's early exit from the tournament, Lancaster admitted he was still "clearly in a dark place."

"The last thing you want to do is ... brush it (elimination) off, because you can't," he added. "How do you brush it off?

"Whilst all the noise on the outside of the team is huge, internally I'm absolutely determined that the team stays together and stays positive and stays believing what they are doing."
