Ross Ford and Grant Gilchrist are the two additions to Scotland's team for the Six Nations finale against Italy on Saturday.

Ford replaces Fraser Brown, even though he escaped a suspension after being sin-binned during the 61-21 defeat by England last Saturday

Ford, who will be winning his 107th cap, has not started a game so far in the tournament.

Coach Vern Cotter was forced into a change on Friday when lock Richie Gray failed a fitness test on his hamstring injury, meaning a late call for Edinburgh second-row Gilchrist.

Stuart Hogg, Tommy Seymour and Ryan Wilson are included but they must all complete their graduated return to play protocols following head injuries.

Finn Russell, Huw Jones (both knee) are also available.

But Glasgow's Mark Bennett, who damaged his knee against England, misses out with his place on the bench going to Gloucester centre Matt Scott.

Cotter said: "The players were frustrated by last weekend but we must take all the learning from the past years and produce a strong, complete performance to put us in the best possible position to finish in the top half of the table.

"We want to repay the support of another sell-out crowd.

"Matches between Scotland and Italy have always been tough affairs. We have a lot of respect for them and feel they have been improving throughout the competition.
