Jonathan Davies could miss the rest of Wales' autumn international campaign after injuring his ankle during a 29-21 defeat against Australia.

The star centre, who was awarded British and Irish Lions player of the series against the All Blacks this summer, is now a doubt for Wales' upcoming matches against Georgia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland revealed his concern over the injury.

Speaking after the game, Gatland said: "It doesn't look brilliant. He has been strapped up, and he's on a crutch."

An update on the injury is expected on Monday.

Tries for Tafatu Polota-Nau, Adam Coleman, Michael Hooper and Kurtley Beale helped inflict Wales' 13th successive defeat against Australia.

Wales named three debutants in their side - Owen Watkin, Leon Brown and Sam Cross - and showed signs of progress in attack with wing Steff Evans scoring impressively and Hallam Amos adding a late consolation score.

"We are disappointed in terms of the result, but we talked about putting some new faces out there," Gatland said.

"There were three new caps, three (more) guys having their first game at home, and some youngsters in there. They will get better from that experience, and as a team we tend to get stronger as the campaign goes on.

"Our whole focus now is on planning and the countdown to the World Cup. It's about picking and exposing some young players and giving them experience and opportunity and developing different types of styles."
